Short Description
Cast acrylic sheet PMMA is a product of rare quality, unique abilities and outstanding performance. Cast acrylic sheet is produced directly from monomer by two methods: cell cast and continuous cast. Cast acrylic sheet has a very high molecular weight, making it more rigid, craze resistant and easy to handle, cut and cement. It is easy to shape, fabricate and form. Cast acrylic sheet is also used due to its optical clarity of clear sheet, color palette, inspiring surface effects, durability in demanding environments and for the creative potential it offers that is beyond traditional materials such as wood, steel, glass or ceramics.
Introduction
CAST Acrylic Sheets -are offered in Clear, Black, White, Grey, Bronze, Blue, Red, Yellow,
Green and more. Acrylic applications include: picture frames, store displays, furniture, shelving, windows, barriers, shields, replacement glass and aquariums. Clear Acrylic is optically transparent, unaffected by moisture, and offers a high strength-to-weight ratio, and can be easily heat-formed without loss of optical clarity. Prolonged exposure to moisture, or even total immersion in water, does not significantly effect its' mechanical or optical properties.
Cast acrylic can be created using two different techniques, batch cell and continuous production. Batch cell is a molding process often used to make tubes and rods. On the other hand, continuous production, which shares the name of casting, is a quick process that runs nonstop, requiring less labor.
Why use CAST Acrylic verses EXTRUDED Acrylic ?
1) Continuous Service Temp: 180° F (Cast) vs. 160° F (Extruded)
2) Formability Temp: 340° F to 380° F (Cast) vs 290° F to 320° F (Extruded)
3) Cast acrylic has a higher molecular weight, therefore it will cut, drill and rout cleaner.
4) When machining cast acrylic, shavings will flake off whereas extruded acrylic shavings may gum up on the tool.
5) Cast acrylic also offers better glue-joint effectiveness and performs better in laser
cutting.
Advantage of Cast Acrylic Sheet
1. Optical clarity
Clear cast acrylic has an exceptionally high level of light transmission allowing 92% of all visible light through the material creating an unparalleled crystal clear finish. Not even glass can achieve this level of optical clarity. Because of this clear cast acrylic is an excellent alternative to glass for glazing purposes.
2. Hard wearing
Cast acrylic is one of the hardest thermoplastic sheet materials available and its attractive aesthetics remain for longer than other plastic sheet materials.
3. Light weight
While offering higher levels of clarity than glass, clear cast acrylic weighs half as much as an equivalent glass panel making fabrication, installation and transportation a far more attractive proposition.
4. High gloss finish and easy to clean
Its high gloss finish is not only very attractive but also more practically very easy to clean.
5. Weather resistant
With excellent resistance to the elements, cast acrylic performs well outside. No significant changes in appearance are expected over 10 years.
